Schauspieler
Ronald Reagan
Ronald Wilson Reagan (* 6. Februar 1911 in Tampico, Illinois; † 5. Juni 2004 in Bel Air, Los Angeles, Kalifornien) war der 40. Präsident der Vereinigten Staaten (1981–1989), der 33. Gouverneur von Kalifornien (1967–1975) und zuvor Schauspieler.
Nach seinem College-Abschluss zog Reagan zunächst nach Iowa, um als Radiomoderator zu arbeiten, und dann 1937 nach Los Angeles, Kalifornien. Er begann eine Karriere als Schauspieler und spielte in über fünfzig Filmproduktionen mit. Einige seiner bekanntesten Rollen spielte er in Knute Rockne All American (1940) und Kings Row (1942).
Reagan war Präsident der Screen Actors Guild und später Sprecher von General Electric. Sein Einstieg in die Politik erfolgte während seiner Tätigkeit für General Electric.
Ursprünglich Mitglied der Demokratischen Partei, wechselte er 1962 zur Republikanischen Partei. Nachdem er 1964 die Präsidentschaftskandidatur von Barry Goldwater unterstützt hatte, wurde er überredet, sich um das Amt des Gouverneurs von Kalifornien zu bewerben, das er zwei Jahre später und erneut 1970 gewann. Bei den Vorwahlen der Republikaner 1968 und 1976 unterlag er, besiegte jedoch 1980 den amtierenden Präsidenten Jimmy Carter bei den Präsidentschaftswahlen.
Reagan schied 1989 aus dem Amt aus. 1994 gab der ehemalige Präsident bekannt, dass bei ihm Anfang des Jahres Alzheimer diagnostiziert worden war. Er starb zehn Jahre später im Alter von 93 Jahren.
