Al Bridge
Al Bridge war ein US-amerikanischer Charakterdarsteller, der sowohl in Western als auch in den Komödien von Preston Sturges eine feste Größe war.
Obwohl er häufig als Alan Bridge geführt wurde, hieß er ursprünglich Alfred Morton Bridge und wurde 1891 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, geboren (nicht als Alford Bridge im Jahr 1890, wie sein Grabstein fälschlicherweise angibt).
Nach seinem Dienst als Korporal in der US-Infanterie im Ersten Weltkrieg schloss sich Bridge einer Theatergruppe an. Er versuchte sich als Autor und verkaufte 1930 das Drehbuch zu einem Kurzfilm, „Her Hired Husband“ (1930). Darauf folgte das Drehbuch zu einem B-Western, „God's Country and the Man“ (1931), in dem er sein Filmdebüt als Schauspieler gab.
Im folgenden Vierteljahrhundert gelang ihm das ungewöhnliche Kunststück, sowohl in B-Western als auch in größeren Spielfilmen und Komödien erfolgreich zu sein. Zehn Filme für Regisseur Preston Sturges zählen wohl zu seinen bekanntesten Beiträgen zur Hollywood-Geschichte. Bridge trat bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1957 im Alter von 66 Jahren auch häufig im Fernsehen auf.
